I added a link on my right sidebar if anyone ever wants to email me.

Thanks, FranticWoman for pointing out that I had neglected to do so.

I Can’t Help It. I’m A Geek.

Ξ January 16th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Blog Updates |

I’ve been on kind of a half daytime, half nighttime schedule lately, and it led to me being awake for long hours during the night with not a whole lot to do. So just for fun I’ve been working on a Community Portal for people who are getting out of debt. I don’t know if anyone is interested in such a thing, but if you want to preview what I have so far, click on the yellow star to the left. I think it’s kind of neat. You can post a link to articles you have written, with a synopsis, and it lists them all together. If enough people got involved with it, it would give everyone a lot more traffic.

But mostly I was just bored.

Somebody let me know what they think of it so I can know if I should continue playing with it. Be honest though. You’re not going to hurt my feelings. I even put up a poll so you can tell me anonymously whether you like it or not.

Anyhow, what do you do when you get bored?

The Pay Week Is Over

Ξ January 13th, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Blog Updates, On the Job |

I ended up getting canceled for eight hours, giving me a 52 hour week. Not too shabby.

I’m scheduled for Sunday, Friday, and Saturday this week now, for 36 more hours. I’ve already asked them to call me if they need anyone for overtime. But even if I don’t get any OT at all the second week of the pay period, I’m in good shape right now.

Unrelated to that, I added a page under the ‘Menu’ tab above to keep track of all of the cool things that I DIDN’T buy while I am getting out of debt. Things that I REALLY want to buy, but passed on.

And since I started River of Debt on the first pay period of the year, I think it would be handy to keep a simple log page of how much $$ went toward debt each payday.

I’ll start that up later in the week though, when I have more time/brainpower.

For right now, I think I’ll just go to bed.

And So It Begins

Ξ January 10th, 2008 | → 6 Comments | ∇ Blog Updates, About Me |

I always wanted to get out of debt. Or rather, I always wanted to be out of debt. Getting out of debt is what I truthfully didn’t want. I’ve been in debt since college. I got my first credit card in college, and I took out student loans. The idea was that I could build my credit while I was in school and then I could easily pay it off once I finished school and entered the workforce. Funny how things work out though. I graduated college in ‘96 and I’ve been in debt ever since. In fact, I’m still paying on my student loans.

I always meant to get out of debt one day. I even tried paying things off last year. But it was a rough year. My job situation became unstable after early August or so, and I’ve been struggling to get by ever since.

And now I’ve had it. I’m going to get out of debt no matter what it takes. No matter how many hours I have to work or how many pizzas I have to deliver. I’m tired of working and sending off all of my money to pay debts that I’ve been carrying for too long already.

So I started this blog, River of Debt, to chronicle my journey out of debt. Maybe I can encourage someone else in the future to follow me. Or maybe I can get motivation to continue when my resolve starts to weaken.

Nevertheless, welcome to my blog. I’m still working the bugs out of it though. Feel free to comment, good or bad. It only takes a minute to leave a comment and sometimes it makes a world of difference.
